Checkup and Cleans

To keep your smile healthy, we recommend booking a checkup every six months. There are many facets that come into play when it comes to a healthy smile. During these visits we’ll evaluate everything from the neck up, including your gum tissues, existing dental work and the integrity of your individual teeth.

Will I Need X-rays?

Periodic dental X-rays allow us to screen for conditions that aren’t visible during your clinical exam. People with relatively healthy teeth and few dental concerns typically only need X-rays about once every other year. Individuals with a history of tooth decay, bone loss or other concerns may need them taken at each checkup.

The sooner we pinpoint areas of decay or bone loss, the less-invasive the treatment needs become. Earlier diagnosis allows for modest therapies that are better for teeth and your budget.
Here to Listen to Your Concerns

Be sure to share any questions or concerns with us during your checkup. We believe that our patients should drive their care and we’re attentive to the needs of the individual. If you suspect a problem or want to discuss a particular treatment option, we’re happy to offer professional advice.

Should you need treatment or an elective procedure, we’ll work up a customised care plan. This treatment plan will include the steps involved, therapies offered and fees applicable to each step. You’ll play a key role in co-planning the best route of care for your specific situation.

Six Monthly Cleans

Preventative dental cleans help lower the risk of gum disease, bone loss and remove stain buildup. During your clean we’ll gently remove any tartar from just along the gumlines and end with a light polish. People with healthy teeth and gums tend to benefit from a professional scale and clean at least once every six months.

Gum Disease Screenings

As part of your checkup, we’ll carefully evaluate the gum tissues surrounding each of your teeth. Early diagnosis of periodontal (gum) disease can help you avoid unnecessary bone and tooth loss in the future. Be sure to let us know if you’re experiencing warning signs, like;

  1. Gums that bleed easily
  2. Tooth mobility
  3. Spaces between your teeth
  4. Sore or swollen gums
  5. Food catching after meals
  6. Tartar buildup
  7. Bad breath
We will use a small measuring tool to evaluate the attachment level of your gum tissues around each tooth. If the gingiva becomes detached – and creates a deep pocket – a series of deep cleans will be prescribed.

A Family Affair

Great oral hygiene and healthy habits are vital to the entire family. Our practice offers comprehensive preventative care for all ages, including young children. Exposing your child to a positive, prevention-based dental experience can help them feel comfortable visiting the dentist and lower their chances of dental problems in the future.

Tailored Oral Hygiene

Your smile is different than everyone else’s. Whether you have a tooth that’s hard to reach, a bridge to clean around or are recovering from gum disease, you’ll want your home hygiene plan to adapt to your unique mouth. During your clean, we’ll share our findings and discuss areas that may need extra attention. From there we’ll work together to find hygiene techniques that are both simple and effective for your situation.
